Be alert for scammers in SABIE

Our colleagues at Kruger Lowveld have notified us of a latest scam in the Sabie area to be aware of. In a recent incident two Australian tourists were pulled over by a silver hatch Polo, with horizontal black stripes and covered number plates, as they took the Hazyview exit from Sabie. They had spotted the vehicle earlier so they stopped.

Two men approached them, one with an ‘official’ yellow vest on. The tourists were told that the road they were traveling on has a toll gate, which can only be paid at the ABSA ATM in Sabie where they would get a receipt of which they had to show at the ‘toll gate’ as their pass. The Australian tourists believed them and went with them to the ATM, but did not get out of the car. At one stage one of the men became aggressive towards them as they didn’t want to get out of the car, so they took a chance and raced off. Please make your guests and clients aware of these scammers in the area and continue to hand out our Roadside Anti-Corruption cards so that tourists know who to call if they need help on the road.
